The Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Prof. Denis Worlanyo Aheto, has led a delegation to pay a familiarization visit to Prof. Mark Appiah, College President, and Management of the College.

Addressing the meeting, the Pro Vice-Chancellor indicated that the visit marks the first leg of the Pro Vice-Chancellor’s tour to affiliate institutions upon assumption of office in the University. It is also a testament to UCC’s commitment to strengthening its ties with affiliate institutions. Prof. Aheto noted that the visit was to familiarise himself with affiliate institutions’ academic and operational activities; assess their needs, and explore ways to enhance UCC’s support services. He reiterated UCC’s dedication to providing quality mentorship by ensuring high academic standards, quality assurance, and improved administrative support for all its affiliates.

The College President, Prof. Mark Appiah, presented an overview of the College, covering its governance structure, programmes, staff, facilities, challenges, prospects, and achievements.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor’s team engaged in meaningful discussions with the President of the College, Prof. Mark Appiah, along with the management team. One of the topical issues that came up was how the College converted the research titles to teaching titles. In explaining, the College indicated that it was based on UCC’s promotion criteria that applied to the research units in the University. However, the Pro Vice Chancellor noted that the College focused largely on the teaching staff and stressed that the non-teaching category should also be looked at moving forward.

Prof. Aheto assured the College of UCC’s continuous commitment to their academic growth and pledged to work closely with stakeholders to address their concerns.

The delegation comprised the Dean, School of Graduate Studies, Prof. Sarah Darkwa; Director, Directorate of Academic Affairs, Dr. Atta Yeboah-Sarpong; Head of Institutional Affiliation Office, Dr. Justice Kojo Agyenim Boateng, and Administrative Secretary to the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Alfred Ghartey.

The team from the College side included the Dean, Faculty of Bioresources and Applied Sciences, Prof. (Mrs.) Mary Obodai, Coordinator, College Quality Assurance Office, Prof. Paa Nii Johnson, College Registrar, Mr. Baah-Koranteng, Heads of Departments for Accra Campus Programmes, and Some Key Registry Staff.
